Family History Research Experience
Mara Fein, PhD, CG heads up Ancestry West. A Certified Genealogist, she abides by the Board for Certification of Genealogists® 21-clause code of conduct. She is also a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the National Genealogical Society, and the Southern California Genealogical Society. After earning a B.A. in English at Northwestern University, she went on to earn an MBA and PhD in English at the University of Southern California. Her archival research in nineteenth-century history/records led her to immerse herself in genealogical research. She has successfully researched difficult cases, including those of immigrants, revolutionary war patriots and civil war veterans.
Many cases involve tracing ancestors across multiple states and countries and Dr. Fein has easy access to the largest genealogical collection in the world at the Family History Library. She also can access unique records housed in state and local collections.
Dr. Fein has spoken on various topics at places such as the Southern California Genealogical Society and the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies annual conference. Publications include "Brother of Father? Proving the Father of John Jayne" and "The Value of Passport Applications in Genealogical Research."
