Hiring a Board-Certified Genealogist
Genealogy, also known as family history research, is actually a branch of historical research. As such it demands strict research techniques. As a Certified Genealogist, Dr. Fein must abide by the Genealogical Proof Standard (GPS) in drawing conclusions. As defined by the Board for Certification of Genealogists, this standard requires a reasonably exhaustive search; complete and accurate citation for all sources; analysis and correlation of data; resolution of conflicts in evidence; and a soundly reasoned, coherent written conclusion.
Genealogists certified by BCG (Board for Certification of Genealogists) must sign a 21-clause code of conduct. Violation of the code can be grounds for decertification.
